Students
Socialist Worker Student Society Meets every Wednesday at 5pm, in the Function room upstairs in the students union.
PORTSMOUTH SWP is the Portsmouth branch of the Socialist Workers Party. We campaign for socialism in the Portsmouth area as part of a national and international struggle. We have about 30 members locally and hold regular political and organisational meetings. Our members are also actively involved in their respective trade or student unions, in the Left Alternative coalition and in campaigns such as the Stop the War Coalition, Unite Against Fascism, Love Music Hate Racism, and Portsmouth Climate Action Network We sell the Socialist Worker newspaper and other publications.
Our basic principles are: * Support for working class struggle
* Replacement of capitalism by socialism – the collective ownership and democratic control of the means of production by working people.
* Revolution – capitalism can be overthrown only by mass workers’ revolution, not by parliamentary reform (though we sometimes contest elections for propaganda purposes).
*Opposition to racism and all forms of oppression and discrimination.
*Internationalism – working people of all countries are our sisters and brothers.
*Socialism cannot be built in one country alone.
For information or to become involved phone or email John Molyneux on 07801 290411, or Jon Woods 07921 775828.
